Metformin
Metformin is an insulin-sensitizing agent that is commonly used to treat Type II diabetes. It is used to lower insulin levels in hyperinsulinemic patients (insulin levels are too high). Most polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) patients are hyperinsulinemic, which leads to increased male hormone production and irregular or no ovulation. Metformin normalizes insulin levels to allow natural ovulation to resume.
Metformin facilitates the actions of insulin at the level of the cell and reverses many of the negative effects on the womans reproductive system, allowing the resumption of ovulation and reducing the risk of early pregnancy loss.
