Hysterosalpingogram

A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) can determine if the fallopian tubes are clear of obstruction. This test also detects abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps, and malformations within the uterus.

The HSG test is relatively simple: the patient’s uterus is filled with a radio-opaque dye, which is monitored as it passes though the fallopian tubes and into the abdomen via real-time X-ray (fluoroscopy). If the dye fails to advance, it suggests an obstruction or uterine abnormality.
