Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month: Supporting Families Through Loss

Posted on October 19, 2026

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to remember babies lost too soon and acknowledge the grief experienced by parents, families, and loved ones.

Pregnancy and infant loss can be an incredibly difficult and deeply personal experience. This month offers an opportunity to raise awareness about pregnancy loss, miscarriage and infant loss while creating space for remembrance, compassion and support.

Breaking the Silence Around Pregnancy Loss

Pregnancy is often a time filled with excitement, anticipation and plans for the future. When a pregnancy ends unexpectedly through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss, the grief that follows can be profound.

For many families, that grief can also feel isolating. It may be difficult to know how to talk about the experience, find pregnancy loss support, or navigate conversations with friends and family.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month helps bring these experiences into the conversation and reminds those who have experienced loss that they do not have to grieve alone.

Finding Support After Miscarriage or Pregnancy Loss

There is no single way to experience or process pregnancy and infant loss. Grief is deeply individual, and everyone deserves the time, space and support they need.

At PCRM, we recognize that pregnancy loss is not only a medical experience, but an emotional one. Support may come in many forms, including connecting with loved ones, speaking with a counsellor, joining a pregnancy loss support group, or finding a personal way to remember and honour a loss.

This month is an important reminder for all of us to approach pregnancy and infant loss with empathy and understanding. Simply acknowledging someone’s experience and allowing them space to grieve can be meaningful.

A Time for Remembrance and Hope

For those who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, there are many ways to honour and remember. Some may choose to light a candle, plant something in remembrance, participate in a memorial event or simply take time to reflect privately.

At PCRM, we are here to support patients through every part of their fertility journey, including moments of uncertainty and loss. As we recognize Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we remember the lives lost, acknowledge the families who carry their memory, and continue to create space for compassion, healing, and hope.

Understanding Miscarriage

Miscarriage can be surrounded by questions and misconceptions. Learning more about the causes and risk factors of miscarriage can help bring greater understanding to an experience that affects many individuals and families.

PCRM fertility specialist Dr. Caitlin Dunne shares insight into common causes of miscarriage, including medical and lifestyle factors, and addresses some of the misconceptions surrounding pregnancy loss.
