It is November, a time of year marked by shorter days, cooler nights and an influx of moustachioed dudes talking hockey (at least here in Canada). Whether aspiring to the likes of Tom Selleck, the Mario Brothers or the hipster community, Movember is a great excuse for gentlemen everywhere to cultivate their facial hair. Regardless of their visual appeal (opinions ladies?), November moustaches invite the public to speak openly about men’s health, a subject traditionally considered taboo, particularly amongst men.

When it comes to matters of infertility, males often view their health as a secondary concern. Society in general tends to focus on the woman’s role in pregnancy. However, infertility is greatly influenced by the physical condition and emotional state of the male partner. PCRM welcomes any opportunity to spotlight the importance of men’s health. Movember is a good thing.

Besides, as our own Jon Havelock would say, “What’s better than having an excuse NOT to shave?”

Dr. Havelock is just one member of PCRM’s staff participating in this year’s Movember event. While he may be alone in the undertaking of a new moustache, Dr. Havelock will be joined by many of his “Mo Sistas” in a joint effort to raise funds for the Movember Foundation.

The Movember Foundation is a charitable initiative started 12 years ago in Australia; it began with 30 moustaches and a healthy vision for the future. Today, millions of dollars are raised annually to benefit organizations around the world that provide research and support for male-centric afflictions such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity; four of the biggest health challenges facing men today.

PCRM has signed up a team through the foundation’s official website. Our staff is partnering with members of the Yinstill Reproductive Wellness group. We are calling ourselves “The Repro Mo’s.” Expect plenty of updates and pics from Ron, Arianna, Spence and Harris—along with the rest of the gang—in the weeks to come. Be sure to check out our Twitter page for all the latest “MOfie” action.

As part of the “Move-ember” fundraising component, we’re all pledging to become more physically active for the month. Whether it’s going for a bike ride or taking the dog for an extended walk, Movember is all about thinking fit and showcasing your support for the men in your life. We encourage everyone to register a team and get busy.

Of course, you don’t have to be an official “Mo Bro” to participate. Exercise a little and spread the word on social media. Feel free to Tweet us your best moustache pics (real or fake) and Movember related activities using the hashtag #Movember2015.

Visit the Movember Foundation’s website for further inspiration. The Repro Mo’s donation page can be viewed here. All funds raised will go directly to the Movember Foundation.

Men’s health is an important issue that needs to be addressed all year long. What better time than now to join the conversation?
